Library hosts author Jason Porath

RJ3The Durham Tech Library hosted author, illustrator, and blogger, Jason Porath, in the Teaching-Learning Center on November 15. Porath discussed his newly published book, Rejected Princesses, which is based on his popular website and blog.

Porath discussed his research, inspiration for the project, and his past work experience at DreamWorks Animation. Attendees, including Marina DelVecchio’s HUM 150 Women’s Studies class (pictured below with Porath), thoroughly enjoyed the author’s humor and stories, and were enlightened by the information shared during his presentation and the question and answer period.

Durham Tech’s Music Ensemble performs the national anthem

DT Ensemble

The Durham Tech Music Ensemble, under the direction of Adia Ledbetter, performed the national anthem at the Tomorrow’s Community Leaders Award Ceremony for the Mayor’s Award on October 27. Sponsored by the Triangle Nonprofit and Volunteer Leadership Center, the Mayor’s Award recognizes Triangle-area students who demonstrate a commitment to service by volunteering at local nonprofits during their summer break.

The Ensemble beautifully represented Durham Tech to an audience that included Mayor William Bell, Commissioner Ellen Reckhow, and Senator Mike Woodard.

Penny Gluck (pictured above), Executive Dean, welcomes everyone to stop by Orange County Campus through the end of the month to check out the Vitamin O profiles of Orange County residents.

Vitamin O is a joint venture by Alicia Stemper (pictured below with Steven Ray Miller, who helped her hang the print exhibit) and the Community Relations division of Orange County. Vitamin O Alicia Stemper and Steven Ray Miller

Alicia has been a resident of Orange County since 1983. Trained also as a social worker, she is attracted to people and their stories. She loves the challenge of combining images and words into something greater than either vehicle could carry alone.
