Michele Parrish, Information Systems Security/Networking Technologies instructor, reports that members of Durham Technical Community College’s chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Delta Beta Upsilon, attended the 2016 NCPBL Fall Leadership Conference in Greensboro, NC, November 18-19. Parrish is the faculty advisor for the club.
Along with participating in various workshops on leadership topics, Durham Tech representatives conducted a workshop entitled “Unite and Conquer. Team Building: An Essential Element in Leadership Success,” and participated in the non-trivia and recruitment display competitions.
For the second year in a row, Durham Tech designed the years’ winning pin. The pin will be made and sold at the State Leadership Conference in April. The chapter was also awarded the Gold Star chapter award by completing six “beginning of the year” activities. Durham Tech student Christopher McDuff was one of three winners of a $650 NCPBL Professional Division -Foundation, Inc. Scholarship.
PBL has been very active in serving the community this semester. They have volunteered several
times at Durham Urban Ministries, collected food for the Durham Tech food pantry and participated in Phi Theta Kappa’s clothing drive. Additionally, they graded written tests and served as “helpers” for the FBLA Triad Regional Conference at Chapel Hill High School on December 10. PBL Members also volunteered at the Museum of Life and Science’s Pumpkin Patch in October and the Santa Train on December 9.
Additionally, chapter members have been collecting donations for the March of Dimes Walk for Babies in April. Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda, Inc., is the premier student business organization in the world.
