Orange County Campus quilt commemorates Underground Railroad, Black History Month

Dale Smith, a former nursing instructor at Durham Tech, donated a quilt to the college that shows detailed designs that some historians say were used during the Underground Railroad movement. Smith, who was an instructor at the college from 1997 to 2010, used Civil War era fabric to comprise the quilt. One 12-inch square of the quilt is made up of 72 individual pieces. The quilt is being displayed at the Orange County Campus in commemoration of Black History Month.
