Fifteen Durham Tech faculty members have successfully completed the first Teaching-Learning Academy (TLA) in the Teaching-Learning Center (TLC). The TLA focused on high-impact practices around the following themes: adult learners, active learning strategies, classroom facilitation strategies, assessment strategies, and the NC Community College System.
The course included five online Sakai modules and two face-to-face workshops on Saturday mornings. It was held through the fall semester. The TLA successfully created a community of Durham Tech full-time and part-time faculty who are committed to student success.
The following faculty members make up the first graduating class: Meghan Barnes, Stephanie Dawson, Mel Dejesus, Mauricio Garcia-Vargas, Jamie Gilbert, Rhea Hebert, Katherine Koballa, Mickey MacAdam, Starlett Mack, Jennifer Macy, Thomas Magrinat, John Paul Middlesworth, Tisha Phillips, Brittney Vorndick, and Deidre Yancey. The TLA celebrated its conclusion with cake and collegiality in the TLC on Friday, December 9.
Please congratulate the first graduating class of the TLA when you see them and be sure to look for an opportunity to participate in the next TLA.
